State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Floyd Green (right) addresses the audience at a job fair hosted by the HEART/Trust NTA in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the National Irrigation Commission (NIC) and the Rural Agricultural Authority (RADA), at Pawsey Park in Lionel Town, Clarendon on November 29. The job fair sought to target displaced sugar workers, their families, and community members from the Monymusk area and is a planned strategy by the Government to provide assistance to the displaced sugar workers.

Residents of Lionel Town and surrounding areas of Clarendon, who were previously employed to the closed Monymusk Sugar Factory and intend to pursue farming on acreages of former sugar lands, are to benefit from input materials such as seeds and fertilisers. The fertiliser is to be sourced from some 2,400 tonnes being provided by the Kingdom of Morocco to the Government’s Production Incentive Programme. Hon J.C. Hutchinson (right), Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, presents the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation Ltd’s Best of St. Bess Golden Award to Allison and Oral Turner of Turner’s Innovations Ltd for innovation in agriculture at the Homecoming Awards Brunch in St. Elizabeth on December 1, 2019. The Turners created the first sorrel harvesting machine. Other awardees included the National Irrigation Commission, Rural Agricultural Development Authority and farmer Desmond Whitely. The St Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation, now in its 26th year, hosts Homecoming celebrations annually.

Agriculturalist Desmond Whitely emerged winner of the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation 2019 “Best of St Bess” Golden Award in the category of farming at the foundation’s Awards Brunch in St. Elizabeth on December 1.
